Welcome to Practice!

Yoga practice gives us profound tools and capacities in our lives.

It’s hard to practice something that we don’t understand the value of; knowing what’s important to us is important.

Online yoga classes give us the best of both worlds: guidance from someone experienced in the work, and the freedom to adjust what's being offered to suit our personal practice. We do our own work on our own mats with the acknowledgment that we’re not doing it alone (nor could we!). The result is that we feel more connected—both to ourselves and to one another. In a world where we can be surrounded all around by others and still feel lonely, connection matters. Connection to community matters. In the process we come up against our hard edges, and with support we find ways to still remain open… even when it’s hard. Even when it feels impossible.

Everything that we do has to do with our attention.

Where do we start? We start where we are.

My aim for this platform is to foster a community of practitioners who care for and support one another—even across the Net. I make the assumption that you're here to learn. I teach in that way. I'm not here to give you a "basic" facilitation class (though I see the value in classes like that, too!). I'm here to teach you how to practice.

Teaching is a skill. It's a skill I've honed through 11 years of doing it and five years of teaching others how to do it. It's a skill I've honed in my graduate studies in pedagogy (the theory and practice of learning, and how this process influences, and is influenced by, the social, political and psychological development of learners). And it's a skill I use every day with my toddler!

In the end it's not about the postures themselves; it's about what arises as we endeavor to learn them.

Yoga is not a work-out; it is a work-in.

Welcome. Engage. Ask questions. Leave comments. Share your experience. I’m here for you.

~Brooke
