Meditation Foundations: Awareness

"Joy is within. Meditate."
~Swami Muktananda
The practice of meditation is a wellspring of resource in our everyday lives. In addition to the wise ancient teachings on meditation within yogic studies, there are also thousands of scientific studies that show that meditating reduces stress, improves sleep, increases focus, and improves our relationships.
We don’t have to get into an altered state to come into deeper relationship with our inner world, with the Self. All we need to do is to become aware of the part of us that sees and knows. When we connect with that inner Knower, we connect with our essence. Doing this takes some practice. This guided meditation is a simple yet effective way to ground ourselves in our innermost Being.
Approach your meditation with interest, and the simple time of sitting becomes enjoyable in itself. Our practice tills the soil within, so that when transformation comes, it can take root and grow us into who we always already are.
May your practice of meditation unfold joyfully, and may it serve you in every season of your life.
(This practice is adapted from the teachings of Sally Kempton in her book, "The Heart of Meditation: Pathways to a Deeper Experience.")
